The Ryan E. Bishop Outdoor Leadership Fund at Westminster College

The Ryan E. Bishop Outdoor Leadership Fund at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Ryan was a business major, was established as a scholarship fund to honor Ryan’s natural leadership abilities. This fund is intended to ensure that future students have the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to lead others in outdoor adventures, as Ryan loved to do.

As a result of A Day for Bishop, organized by Westminster students, six students who exemplify Ryan’s values were awarded scholarships for outdoor leadership training and certification in 2011/2012. In 2012/2013, seven deserving students will be awarded scholarships for outdoor leadership training and certification during the spring semester.

Recipients of 2011/2012 scholarships - Wilderness First Responder Certification: Arly Landry and Greg Hewitt. AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Exam: Patrick Hanna and Harrison Parker Higgins. National Outdoor Leadership School Instructor Course: Charlie Ramser. Outstanding work in the Outdoor Recreation Program: Benjamin Dove.

"Ryan was a passionate individual with a fervor for life and the outdoors and he is deeply missed. I grew up loving to ski, bike, climb, backpack and explore. I get immense satisfaction from showing others the great activities and places that have enriched my life so much. I promise to continue his legacy.”

"I had the privilege of knowing Ryan and was always astonished about what an amazing person he is....I am extremely excited to use this to enhance my knowledge of the outdoors, and leadership."
